This school year at St. Peter Catholic School we are reflecting on the virtue of COURAGE. Throughout the Gospel, we hear Jesus tell his disciples to "Take COURAGE! Be not afraid!" The word COURAGE literally refers to our heart. To have COURAGE is to have heart, to face our fears head-on, to place our trust in our God when the going gets rough. This is easy to say yet hard to do, but with God, all things are possible.
St. Peter had the COURAGE to step out of his boat, at night, with rough waves all around him, and he miraculously walked on water. He fixed his eyes on Jesus and began to do the impossible. We, too, can do the impossible, when we keep our focus on the LORD and what He can do rather than on focusing on ourselves and our limitations.
Pray for our students, teachers, staff, and administrators throughout the year, that we will be provided opportunities to put COURAGE into practice and that we will grow in this important virtue that is lacking in our world today. Pray that we will respond to God's grace with COURAGE and not be afraid to follow His commands, to do His will, to love others, to forgive others, and to sacrifice for others. Pray that we may imitate Jesus and Mary, both of whom walked COURAGEOUSLY every day of their lives.

* Faith, hope, and charity are on the list every year since they are the theological virtues – the “big three.” Hope just happens to be our Virtue of the Year, so we will double-up on hope during the month of December.
